2013 PKC Purina/SportDOG Senior Dog Showdown

The sixty-four (64) member field for the 2013 PKC Senior Dog Showdown has been confirmed. The event is scheduled for February 01 and 02, 2013 at the Isle of Capri Casino in Lula, Mississippi. Co-sponsored by PKC, Purina, SportDOG, and the Isle of Capri Casino, the winner will drive home in a brand new Chevrolet Silverado 4 X 4 pickup truck! The PKC Senior Dog Showdown is a single elimination event, conducted under Pro Rules with non-hunting judges, with first round cast winners advancing to the late round on Friday night. The four late round cast winners will compete on Saturday night for the keys to the brand spanking new pickup truck! In addition to the pickup truck that will be awarded on Saturday night, the remaining cast members of the final-four will receive $2,000 to the runner-up, $1,000 to third place, and $500 to fourth place.

Our field this year consists of 37 Males and 27 Females. Those 64 dogs represent one Black & Tan male and one female; two Bluetick females; two Cross-Bred males and one female; three English males and three females; and 31 Walker males and 20 females.

The state of Georgia leads the field with ten qualifiers, followed closely by Tennessee with eight; Kentucky has six; Louisiana, Missouri and Virginia have four qualifiers each. Arkansas, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania each have three qualifiers; Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia qualified two each; Alabama, Iowa, and Nebraska, and North Carolina complete the field with one qualifier each.

Timberlake’s Skuna River Sue, a Walker Female with a birth date of 11/25/2003, owned by Dale Timberlake of Trenton, Tennessee, is the oldest of the qualifiers at the tender age of nine years and 2 months old, followed by Smokin’ Blue Roxy, owned by Cody Westbrook of Benton, Arkansas with a birth date of 03/13/2004. Our youngest qualifiers are Big Bad Bernice, owned by Billy Bell of Parsons, TN, with a birth date of 10/08/2008, and Million Dollar Chunk Change, owned by Leonard Or Allen of Galax, VA with a birth date of 10/02/2008; six days older than Bernice. An additional fourteen 2008 models; twenty-three 2007 models; ten 2006 models; eight 2005 models; and five 2005 models round out the field.

All qualifiers will receive a cap and jacket commemorating their qualification for the event, compliments of Purina, SportDOG, and PKC, and are asked to please wear the jacket for picture taking! Drawing for first round casts, and pictures of all qualifiers will be taken Friday February 01 between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM at a site designated by the casino, and all participants are asked to please be on time.

Beginning at 4:00 PM, all participants and their guests will be treated to a brunch consisting of various finger foods, compliments of the Isle of Capri Casino. Calling of casts will follow the brunch, and we hope to bring members at home the complete matchups online soon after draw-out is completed!

Each member of the final cast will be interviewed on Saturday afternoon by Amy Kovac-Thomas for articles to be published in PROHOUND. Each late round cast winner on Friday night will be assigned an interview time for Saturday afternoon on returning to the casino.
