The next to last stop on the 2001 PKC/PURINA National Bench Show Tour was a humdinger with 40 top hounds g oing head to head for the $1000 Added Purse and for some, a chance to qualify for the upcoming PKC World Coonhound Bench Show Championship. The judges, Lee Currens of South Carolina, Jeff Farthing of Kentucky, and Kim Scott of Michigan had their hands full with classes like the six senior male Treeing Walkers in the Open Performance show. Jim Wilkinson of Kentucky, a veteran PKC show judge, served as Ring Steward and ran a tight show. Lennie Currens of South Carolina staged the dogs and Corey Hart of Georgia, Gary Hern of Illinois, and local club president Bobby Wilson of Indiana served as tellers, counting the judge’s ballots after each class.

Open Show: Best Junior Male Bluetick, Best Male of Bluetick Breed was Killian’s Sparky A.J., owned and handled by James Killian, Ava, IL. $24.00.

Open Show: Best Senior Male Bluetick was Liles’ Blue Bear, owned and handled by Scotty Liles of Town Creek, AL. $6.00

One opportunity remains for those interested in qualifying for the 2001 PKC World Coonhound Bench Show Championship to be held October 27th at the Tennis Center, Ken Lake State Park in Aurora, Kentucky. That opportunity will be the PKC Little Dixie Jamboree Show on Saturday, September 15, 2001, featuring a $25 entry fee and a $1000 Added Purse. The deadline is 12 noon.

For those who may not qualify for the World Show as well as those who are qualified, the PKC Bench Show Extravaganza IV show at Aurora on the morning of the World Show is an excellent opportunity to get the jump on the 2002 standings. The show features $2000 in Added Purse, a $50 entry fee and some excellent prizes to the King and Queen of Show. Also, all Best of Show winners will receive $200 Added Purse! The deadline for the Bench Show Extravaganza IV is 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 27th. The show is open to any PKC registered coonhound, crossbred hound, or cur. Dogs may be registered on the grounds before the show. The World Coonhound Bench Show will follow at approximately 1:00 PM. Dogs that have earned $100 in PKC shows between October 1st of 2000 and September 30th of 2001 are eligible to compete in the World Championship show. If you qualified recently, bring your Certificates of Earnings as proof.
