t each made a trip to the Hoosier State on Monday of this week to recover dogs that had been stolen from their homes last winter. This time Hutchison returned from Medaryville, a small town on Rt. 421 between Michigan City and Lafayette, with his String Again dog, a Walker male and one of three hounds that disappeared from his kennel on November 19th of last year. Cutright’s dogs had been taken on Christmas day.

When Doit Cutright went to northeastern Indiana in January to recover his hound Doc, stolen along with the Rock dog that was recovered on Monday, he learned that there was a dog in that country that matched somewhat the description of Rock. He followed up the lead but it didn’t pan out. The individual had a photo of the dog and his family taken December 22nd. Cutright’s dog had not been taken until December 25th. He made a note of the name of the individual that had the dog and filed it away. Monday, as he happily drove back to his Illinois home, it dawned on him that the name of the individual that was harboring Rock and Hutchison’s Frosty, had come up in a conversation over that dog. He also realized that the dog in Medaryville may have fit the description of Hutchison’s stolen dog, String Again.

String Again had been bought legitimately from a man who in turn bought him from an individual in Putnam County, Ind., the same individual from whom Frosty and Rock were recovered on Monday. Cutright made a call to Hutchison with the name and number of the individual that had the dog and the rest is history. String Again is now safely at home in Coldwater with his kennel mate Frosty.

Three stolen dogs remain uncovered. In the early morning hours of December 22nd, three hounds disappeared from the residence of Tom Doss of Battle Ground, Indiana. One of the hounds, a ten-year old female was found dead on a roadside approximately 50 miles south of Doss’ home shortly thereafter. One of the hounds taken from Doss’ home was a Walker female owned by Howard Delcamp of Goshen, Indiana named Candy. (See photo above.) Candy is four-year old with a prominent “chicken breast” bone. She has an average mouth, barking 70 to 80 barks per minute on tree and is a good hound.

Also missing is a nine-year old Walker male named Club, so nicknamed for the short, “club-like” tail. His mouth has gone soft and he barks a lot on the chain. Next is a littermate brother to Hutchison’s String Again (String is shown in the small photo above) named Treemore. He was stolen from the home of Dean Brown approximately one month before Hutchison’s dogs were taken. We are awaiting photos of this dog for publication.

Photos – Left is String Again, recovered on May 6th. On right is Candy, still missing.
