ight” certainly describes the weather in western Kentucky these days. But apparently the crowds weren’t listening to the weatherman, coming in droves to the entry tables at the KenLake Tennis Center to participate in night number two of the PKC Breeder’s Showcase.
The Pup Derbies are the focus of this hunt and the Junior Division hunt for one-year-olds drew 81 dogs tonight. The Senior Division beat that with 130 entries while the Open Event drew 251, running the total for all divisions to 462 hounds!
Combined with the entry of 388 on Thursday night, the hunt has entered 850 coonhounds in two nights in record heat and humidity.
A statement recently attributed to a competing organization maintains that PKC’s success can only be attributed to its events being held in close proximity to events of that particular organization. This writer cannot overlook the fact that there are no rival events on Breeder’s Showcase weekend nor during the 10 days of the PKC World Hunt and Super Stakes Championships. These events continue to be the largest in the coonhound world, much larger than those posted by any other coonhound registry to which they have been compared. These facts are submitted here strictly for the record, for the benefit of those interested in such matters, and quite frankly in disbelief that such a comparison should have been made at all.
Here are the results of the Friday night hunts at Aurora:
