rangeville, MI club. Orangeville is a PKC “start up” club now in its third year of conducting PKC events. Paul Patrick was a new PKC member when he decided to start the Gun River Coon Hunter’s Association but he also was determined to do it right.

The Orangeville club sits on Paul’s property near the junction of the Allegan and Barry County line in southwest Michigan. The Yankee Springs State Game Area provides thousands of acres of public land for hunting. There are multitudes of farms to hunt in the area as well. Paul always has fresh coffee and donuts when the hunters arrive and the guides are there to put the casts in coon.

Thursday night, eleven hunters gathered to hunt a one-hour $15 event. It was a first for youth hunter Brandon Coselman in that he was called upon to judge his cast. There’s no better way to get a dedicated young man like Brandon started on the road to being a good judge than to let him prove himself. Brandon’s dad Rod says that Brandon wanted to make a PKC every night this week since he is on spring break and that’s what they are doing. Brandon’s cast returned with no problems. Mr. Roy, here’s a judge for you at the World Hunt one of these days.

The club hosts one mid-week hunt and one weekend hunt each month from February through September. Hunters in this area of the state have warmed to the Orangeville club for two reasons; both the hunting and the fellowship are superb.

In an area where there are two or three long-established clubs that hold trophy hunts, starting a new club was not easy but Patrick is doing it and doing it right. Here are the winners of the April 4, 2002 Open Event:
