PKC $30 O-E Now Available For 2013 Season - Revised -

Since the new $30 PKC Open Event option was announced on July 09, we have had lots of input about this exciting new opportunity for PKC Clubs and PKC Members.  The vast majority of the input, including the National Directors and many Hunt Directors, has been very positive and in support of the $30 hunt option.  Without question, it does help the clubs and the hunters!

However, some members have requested an alternative plan that would allow cast winners be paid back their entry fee of $30 rather than $25, as in the initial awards schedule.  We obviously agreed that this would be a very good thing for the hunters due to the high cost of traveling to the hunts.  On the other hand, we did not want to take anything away from clubs because many of them are hurting.  We did not want a reduction in escrow funds either, possibly jeopardizing future State Championship purses.

After many hours of discussion, I am very pleased to announce that we have revised the $30 Chart of Awards (see below) to alleviate all of these valid concerns.  In order to generate the funds needed to award $30 cast winners, while maintaining a significant club income and accumulating strong State Escrow accounts, the PKC fee has been reduced back to the $25 hunt level of just $3 per dog.  The final outcome is that PKC will take nothing from the additional $5 per dog entry.  As a result, 100% of the additional $20 generated per 4-dog cast will go directly to PKC Clubs and PKC Members winning their cast.

Over the years, we have received numerous requests from hunters and clubs to do more to keep the clubs going and to award any cast winners not advancing to the Final Four in $25 Open Events. Most recently this idea was revived by long-time member Bobby Wilson of North Vernon, Indiana. As a result, a proposed option was drafted for $30 Open Events to provide for these opportunities; to give the clubs more, the finalists more and to pay cast winners not advancing when more than sixteen dogs are entered.

This new $30 Open Events proposal was reviewed by the PKC Staff and the details were sent out for further input. The initiative was unanimously approved by the PKC Executive Board and was voted on by the full body of PKC National Directors, out of the thirty-four all were in favor but three.

The new $30 Open Event option will begin with the new PKC year with hunts starting on October 01, 2012. These optional $30 Open Events will be treated the same as the $10, $15 and $25 Open Events in all ways including Pup Shoot Out and Senior Showdown qualification. The maximum allowable added purse for $30 Open Events is $200 and they may be scheduled six nights per week.  The $10, $15 and $25 Open Events are still available for those clubs that wish to keep the entry fees more economical for their area.

All PKC clubs will be mailed their 2013 Club Charter Agreement this week, please fill these out and get them returned just as soon as possible. If your club plans to hold October hunts, your charter agreement must be returned to the PKC office no later than August 15th. The full body of PKC National Directors unanimously approved a plan to collect an additional $10 per club, per year. This $10 will be deposited directly into your state’s youth escrow account. These dedicated funds may not be used for any other purpose other than Youth Events and programs within your state.

Clubs may schedule two Open Events, plus one Black Gold Pro-Am each month of the 2013 season. Don’t forget your club must have two certified Hunt Directors and your GPS location should be listed on your form. In addition, we suggest you make the entry deadlines for all your May, June, July and August hunts at 9:00 PM due to daylight savings time.
