The final cast of the 2014 PKC World Championship has left the building. We expect the cast to arrive at the casting grounds very shortly.
...
It is currently clear and 34 degrees with a slight east/northeast wind at about 3 mph. The raccoons may be laying up in the oaks and it will take some good old fashion snoot to tree one.
...
The cast is hunting east of Salem in creek and river bottoms.
...
Tony reports they are 10-15 minutes from releasing dogs
...
As a side note; the crowd at this year's PKC World Championship was quite a bit larger than the last few years. The hot topic was the $300 single cast win payout. With the current state of the US economy, members really enjoyed being able to play a bit longer or go home with a little jingle in their pockets.
...
The total awards paid out at this year's PKC World Championship were $205,900!
...
The three finalists tonight are competing for a $50,000 piece of this HUGE pie.
First; $30,000
Second; $12,000
Third; $8,000
...
The cast is pulling up to the hunting spot. Time to fill up your drink, chase the kids off to bed and salt down the popcorn. Sit back and enjoy.
...
Dogs are being collard up, truck location is being marked, Judge Durham is giving last minute instructions and Tony is leading the group in prayer. Please take time to thank God for nature, this sport and our opportunity to enjoy it with our friends!
...
Dogs are cast at about 11:47 PM CDT. Worm is struck under the one minute mark for 100.
...
After the minute expires, Homer is struck for 75.
...
The dogs are taking the track out along the wood line and the judge is applying the six off and on as they work.
...
Six again and off again.
...
Dee is truck in for 50.
...
Hensley and company are making so much noise eating snacks, Durham had to tell them to back off a few steps. It hard to eat pizza while walking through the woods.
...
Dogs have been working long enough now they are starting to split up and go their own ways.
...
Homer has now been declared treed for 100, followed by Worm for 75. Dee is right handed.
...
Tony is making fun of the southern guys, they think it's cold out.
...
Brenden said something about a Buckeye, not sure what he meant.
...
They are taking a long stroll to Homer and Worm. Everyone is warming up now.
...
Cast has arrived and the two dogs are handled at a large, leafless walnut tree.
...
Judge told Brenden to stop texting and shine the tree.
...
They found a hiding spot, but no fur hat. Give Homer and Worm circle points.
...
While walking the two hounds their minute, Dee was declared treed for 100 leashlocking them. The cast has headed to Dee, she is close by.
...
Nobody was home at Dee's tree earning her 150-.
...
The three dogs are being led a minute to recast with a fresh set of strike points.
...
Dogs are released and Homer is struck for 100.
...
Six is a workin'
...
All is quiet except the frosty leaves crunching underfoot and the panel members chewing snacks.
...
We had an excellent group of Full-Time and Pick-Up Judges for the late rounds and the Quarter and Semi-Finals at this year's World Hunt. Thank you all for stepping up. We can't do it without you!
...
Worm breaks the silence and the six. Dillon strikes him for 75. Brenden begins breathing once again.
...
Brenden declares Homer treed for 100.
...
Dee is struck for 50 with a line.
...
Ouch, Homer didn't like that tree after all and rolls on taking 100-. Dee's 50 point strike is now live.
...
Tony is doing well with the reporting. He only fell twice so far and has run into three trees, not wet yet though.
...
Ryan declares Dee treed for 100.
...
As Dee's five is counting down the cast heads that-a-way.
...
Trip told Tony, "Nobody wants to hear what Heidi would have done if she was here".
...
Brenden gets brave and re-trees Homer for 100.
...
The cast is almost to Dee's tree now, and Homer is treed about a quarter further in right handed.
...
Dee has a big hollow oak and is circled up for 150.
...
Dee is walked her minute, but Worm has been declared treed for 100 before she could be recast. Now headed to Homer.
...
Tony says he's not real worried about getting wet, he drank about 10 gallon of cough syrup this week and ate six boxes of Sudafed.
...
Worm is in close proximity to Dee, but they don't know yet if they are together.
...
Brenden has started in with a short Happy Dance! Homer had the bacon and Worm had covered him earning 75- points and deleted tree points.
...
It's about half-time and the scores stand as such:
Worm; 75-
Homer; 100+
Dee; 150-
...
The three hounds are led one minute and recast. Homer is struck for 100 immediately after recasting and the six has been applied.
...
Dee saved Homer and is struck second for 75.
...
Worm is struck for 50 followed by a 100 tree call. Brenden trees Homer for 75.
...
Dee continues to trail off while the cast is heading toward the two boy dogs.
...
When the cast stops to listen, Homer is heard off trailing and is minused 75- for moving on. Still headed toward Worm.
...
Worm has been handled alone and the eight minutes shine time has started.
...
Mr Coon was curled up not to be disturbed. Circle up Dillon and Worm 150 and they are walked the minute.
....
Dee and Homer can be heard trailing and Worm is recast toward them.
...
Homer is declared treed for 100, followed closely by Dee for 75 without a word from Worm.
...
Worm is struck for a quarter with a line a few hundred yards left of the cast.
...
As the cast arrives to the tree it is determined that Homer is not present, he receives 100-. Dee is handled and the shine time started.
...
During shine time, Homer shows up and is handled.
...
Another hiding raccoon, Dee is circled up 150 and Homer's strike points are deleted. Worm's 25 strike points are now live.
...
Before the minute of walking is up, Dillon trees Worm for 100 leashlocking Dee and Homer.
...
The cast plans to call time out and get back to where they are supposed to be hunting after scoring Worm's tree. Bathroom break coming up.
...
They have arrived, another big walnut deja'vu all over again.
...
Lots of raccoons are hiding tonight. Worm is circled for 125 points and time out is called with 24:36 remaining in the contest.
...
Right now the scores stand as such:
Worm; 75-
Homer; 75- (winning on tie breaker)
Dee; 150-
...
Get back in front of your computer. Dogs have been recast at 1:29 with 24:36 remaining.
...
For the first time this week, the minute has expired and no dog has opened.
...
Ryan has struck Dee for 100.
...
Homer struck, 75.
...
Worm opens for 50, followed by a tree call for 100.
...
Homer is treed behind Worm for 75.
...
As the cast is walking toward Worm and Homer, Dee falls treed off by herself, but at this point has not been called treed.
...
Be sure to work out all the scenarios in your mind. What if they have a coon, a circle or blank, what if Dee has a coon?
....
Worm and Homer are circled up and Ryan has treed Dee, leashlocking the other two. The hunt will be over by the time they score Dee. If she has a coon, she's our World Champion. If not, Homer is. They have a long walk and it will be extra-long for Brenden, Ryan and their respective fan clubs around the country.
...
