2011 Fall Super Stakes Finals Set...

Postby R D Carnegie » Sat Oct 22, 2011 9:01 am

Salem, IL – The finalists of the 2011 Fall Super Stakes Championships have been determined. The following dogs and handlers will compete tonight to determine the champions of each division and the bragging rights of “Super Stakes Champion”! Our plans are to bring you a play-by-play of each cast provided cell phone service cooperates. Here’s a brief description of each dog:

SENIOR DIVISION FINALISTS

Image
GCH Flatrock Clackston
DOB: 11-13-2007
Lifetime Earnings: $14,630.37
Walker Male
Sire: PCH Wipeout Zeb Again (Pup Earnings: $231,050)
Dam: River Bend Shea (Pup Earnings: $25,763)
Ronnie Nickens, Owner
Murfreesboro, TN
Robert Halfacre, Handler (Handler Earnings: $13,443)
Crossville, TN

Ronnie has owned Clakston since he was a pup and has done most of the training. Those of us who have known Ronnie Nickens long know what type of dog it takes to be a Nickens hound. I don’t remember a lot of dogs that Ronnie has owned, but the ones that lived there very long were super tuff hounds. Clack is a typical Nickens hound, hard going, independent, accurate and balanced. He usually will have two hundred plus on the first drop and whatever comes after that. Ronnie broke him out as a pup at the Breeders Stake a couple of years ago and has been winning steady with him since. He placed 8th in the state last year and 2nd this year. Said he would have won the state if Jeff Travis had not taken advantage of him while he was crippled on the last night.
Clack has a National ticket and most likely a pup ticket after a dog or two moves out of his way that already had a ticket. He also plans to have him in a few pro events and try to get another truck ticket.
I asked Ronnie about the new Super Stake format and he said “don’t make any difference to me, just tell me when to be there”.

GCH Stylish Paris Hilton
DOB: 11-09-2007
Lifetime Earnings: $11,709.43
Walker Female
Sire: PCH Stylish Pete (Pup Earnings: $96,061)
Dam: Atwood’s All Night Missy (Pup Earnings: $26,160)
Steve Nash Or Lane Mayberry, Owner
Cookeville, TN
Steve Nash, Handler (Handler Earnings: $11,043)
Cookeville, TN

Paris Hilton a name that is familiar to most of the world and brings a different picture to mind when you ask a PKC hunter about Paris Hilton. Stylish Paris Hilton is owned by Steve Nash and Lane Mayberry of Cookeville, TN. Steve has owned Paris since she was a six month old puppy. Steve entered the first three nights looking for those elusive two back to back wins to make it into the quarter – finals of the Senior Super Stakes. Steve said that on Monday night Paris looked good, but did not make it thru. On Tuesday night he relayed they didn’t have a good night and she got beat. On Wednesday night it was a whole different story Steve said she looked good and then treed a coon right off in the late round and hung on to her score in the bad weather to move her to Friday night. Steve won on Friday night moving him to the finals tonight in her last Super Stakes.

Paris and Steve placed 3rd in the Sires Division of last year’s Breeders Stakes, so they are not new by any means to the winners circle. Steve wants to thank Kenny Sparks, and Lane for their help with Paris and all they have done getting here. He also wanted to give credit to Nickey Hale for making the cross she is out of.

Will Paris Hilton make the national news again? We will see tonight…..

SCH Smoky Mountain Crook
DOB: 11-01-2007
Lifetime Earnings: $7,090.30
Walker Female
Sire: CH Skuna River Bark (Pup Earnings: $256,459)
Dam: PCH Stylish Cloey (Pup Earnings: $53,691)
Benny Phipps, Owner
Greensboro, NC
Don Dunlap, Handler (Handler Earnings: $45,400)
Frazeysburg, OH

Crook got her start in the hunts like a lot of other promising young hounds with the Rev. Gene Wolfenbarger in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. I think the kennel got full and Gene got to talking trade with Tim Cramer, who is always got a new dog on his mind. Crook went to South Carolina with Tim, but did not stay a long time because Tim also had another winner of the same age who had just placed in the Breeders division of the Breeder’s Stakes and sold her to Benny.
Benny kept her at home for just a little while and passed her along to Don Dunlap because he had a Homer hound named Leroy that also belonged to the same age group. Don spent the year working her and did not place her in many hunts and now has her ready for the big purse of the Super Stakes.
Crook is a very independent dog that is very accurate, usually scoring plus on most of her trees. We truly expect to be smiling when she comes in off this final cast, but would like to take this opportunity to wish the other hounds and handlers the best of luck.

SCH Eli Stone Mayhem
DOB: 12-07-2007
Lifetme Earnings: $5,581.09
Walker Male
Sire: CH Skuna River Bark (Pup Earnings: $256,459)
Dam: Will’s Foxy Roxy (Pup Earnings: $7,249)
Terry L. Bush, Owner
Forsyth, GA
James Baskin, Handler (Handler Earnings: $20,939)
Burlison, TN

Eli Stone came to the Super Stakes with one owner from Tennessee and will be going home to Alabama with another. Eli was purchased by Gary Elliot of Demopolis, Alabama from James Baskin after James won two rounds on Monday night. James had owned Eli for about 2 ½ - 3 months preparing him for the Super Stakes. James relayed he had great judging all three rounds, to date, and had had some of the best casts he has ever been on treeing two coons early and two by himself late.

According to James on Friday night in the Super Stakes quarter – finals he drew Josh Forsee, Ronnie Bone and Richie Manning as the judge, he said; “It don’t get any better than that.” On this round they treed 3 coons and he had two by himself. James relayed that there is still hope for us “old guys” James placed 2nd in the Tennessee state hunt and 6th in the Nationals.

Will Eli add Super Stakes Champion to the “old guy’s” resume? We will know by morning.

JUNIOR DIVISION FINALISTS

CH Draggin Bawls
DOB: 12-29-2008
Lifetime Earnings: $3,091.03
Walker Male
Sire: GCH Harry Bawls (Pup Earnings: $47,436)
Dam: PCH Stylish Cloey (Pup Earnings: $53,691)
William E Cochran, Owner
Ellijay, GA
Steven Smith, Handler (Handler Earnings: $64,928)
Ellijay, GA

Drag is from one of the more successful kennels in the sport of coonhunting and has lots of hounds and awards to support it. He is from sired by Gold Ch Harry Bawls, who has sired more than his share of winners around the country during the last few years. Drag is quick on strike and tree and is alone with his own coon most of the time. He is also a little wild, but has a lotta heart and has business on his mind when you cut him.
Steven and William sure do like the new Super Stake format, they got him in the money on Thursday night but also entered him Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Some of the breaks don’t go your way, but if you keep plugging the cream will rise to the top. Steven said that one of the best dogs he caught during the event was Corey Sexton and Sport on the second round Thursday night. They each had two coons alone, but Drag won on tie breakers.

CH Valley Creek Psycho
DOB: 12-04-2008
Lifetime Earnings: $630.00
Walker Female
Sire: PCH Cabo Wabo (Pup Earnings: $37,011)
Dam: Fuller’s Minnie Mouse (Pup Earnings: $6,234)
Redgy or Wynell Ramsey, Owners
Whitesboro, TX
Ricky Hawkins, Handler (Handler Earnings: $67,455)
Hamburg, AR

Reggie and Wynell came up with this little female about 6-8 months ago have been mostly working her to get her ready for this event. She is wild and wooley, action packed in every department. Shane Green decided a few months ago to spend more time with the family, so the Ramseys had to look around in a hurry for a new handler and discovered that Ricky Hawkins was available. He says that there are not many handlers around that can handle a wild Indian like this one, “there is a reason she is named Psycho” and Rickey’s name was at the top of the list.
Reggie says he really likes the new format for the Super Stakes, and I think there may be others who needed all four nights to get a ticket. Psycho hunted Monday, Tuesday, and got in Wednesday. With the quality of hounds we are seeing in the Super Stakes today, you not only have to have a good dog, but you have to get a few breaks as well. He also believes that the new discounts to put a stud dog in the Super Stakes and the real discount to certify the entire litter will see our number greatly increase in the coming years.

CH McClendon's Rock
DOB: 12-06-2008
Lifetime Earnings: $3,042.75
Walker Male
Sire: TC’s Cutter (Pup Earnings: $128,701)
Dam: Harrison’s Yadkin River Tarx (Pup Earnings: $11,064)
Arlander McClendon, Owner
Glendale, WI
Danny Van Meter, Handler (Handler Earnings: $18,110)
White Hall, IL

Arlender McClendon and Danny Van Meter have been friends and hunting buddies for a long time. Arlender bought Rock as a weaning pup and left it at Danny’s until he was 9-10 months old to run loose on the farm. He then brought him home and began his training, got him started real well and sent him back to Van Meters to start hunting some in the hunts. Rock is a very balanced dog that can move a track whether cold or hot and is very accurate. You can almost always expect to see his coon when he trees.
Rock also placed in the Super Stakes as a sophomore and expects to come back next year and take the big purse. Rock is also Breeders Stake qualified for both the Sire’s and Breeders division. Danny tried to get a ticket for the pup shootout but missed by less than $50.
Arlender says that he is going to have him collected and breed a few females to see what he will produce. He really likes the bloodline but does not want to live breed him while he is competing in the hunts, but he sure wants to see what some pups out of him will look like.
“We like the new format for the Super Stakes and think it may be a good idea to split it a few weeks from the World Championship”. It did not take Danny and Arlender but one night to get into the money round, qualifying on Monday night, but they sure like the idea of having four nights if they need it.

SCH Mojo Mason
DOB: 03-29-2009
Lifetime Earnings: $7,887.96
Walker Male
Sire: PCH Boogar Hollow Mojo (Pup Earnings: $78,519)
Dam: Tar Heel Maggie (Pup Earnings: $18,358)
Randy Morgan Or Scott Engle, Owner
Hillsboro, OH
Scott Engle, Handler (Handler Earnings: $169,198)
Hillsboro, OH

Randy Morgan is a Kentucky farmer that has been involved with the hounds for a long time and has had a number of winners for a long time. Al Noneman and Ronnie Bone have worked with Randy for quite a while and have consistently produced winners for the Morgan farm.
Randy hooked up with Scott Engle last July with half interest in Mason and is pleased with his investment so far. Mason is a quick hard going dog that covers a lot of ground. He has a good voice that you can hear a long ways and sometimes it really comes in handy. He will usually score his trees plus, as he has proven to be highly accurate.
Although he has a lot of heart and no quit, we decided to hold him out Wednesday night and let him rest. We hunted him Monday and Tuesday night then got him in on Thursday night.
Scott and Randy plans to primarily hunt Mason in the Pro hunts next year. He also has a ticket to the Nationals as well as the Pup Shootout. Ole Mason is likely to spend a lot of 2012 in the back of a truck and hanging out at the motel.

SOPHOMORE DIVISION FINALISTS

Rippin Zippy
DOB: 11-03-2009
Lifetime Earnings: $247.50
Walker Female
Sire: PCH Hardwood Cornell (Pup Earnings: $27,566)
Dam: CH Boone Valley Sadie (Pup Earnings: $1,301)
Chris Britt Or Jack Bingham, Owners
Callao, MO
Jack Bingham, Handler (Handler Earnings: $600)
Montour, IA

Zippy and Jack were beat out in the early round on Monday by Zeb 3 Again and by Bone's Backwater Ruby early Tuesday. The pair showed persistence and re-entered only to be defeated again on Wednesday early by Bear Creek Hanna. Things started coming together early Thursday night with a 250 circle point cast win against Whistlin' Wipeout Amy, Rutter's Oak Ridge Tuck and Night Mare On Stage. The late round card looked much better with a 125+ cast win over Wipeout Hellbilly Bone, Big Time Bentley and Tall Timbers Big Ben.

Zippy came out on top of her semi-final cast with plus points once again defeating Dilley's Trackman Willy, Hurricanader Harley and Medleys Hardwood Dirk with 125+.

Handler Jack Bingham is very excited, this is the farthest he’s ever gone in a PKC hunt. He says he and Chris Britt bought Zippy from Kasey Anderson of Boone, Iowa back in February as a well started dog. Jack and his son Jake have worked on her pretty hard since then. Jack feels his chances are about 33.33%, but all kidding aside he says Zippy is an open trailer with a good mouth that gets by herself and stays treed, so he expects to do well.

Machine Gun Sally
DOB: 11-11-2009
Lifetime Earnings: $413.75
Walker Female
Sire: CH Salt Creek Rapid River Sockett (Pup Earnings: $38,668)
Dam: Snail Creek Misty (Pup Earnings: $413)
Chris Britt Or James Tirey, Owners
Metamora, IN
James Tirey, Handler (Handler Earnings: $34,609 )
Metamora, IN

James Tirey is the breeder of Machine Gun Sally, who is off Salt Creek Rapid River Sockett and his Misty female who was out of 2007 WCH Trax Attack and Dudley Jones’ Country female. After securing a semi-final spot, James sold half interest in Sally to Chris Britt of Callao, Missouri.

James and Sally won their early round Monday night defeating Dilley's Trackman Willy and Bones. Sally finished the cast with 475+. There was a lot of action in the late round against Mud Creek Bo-Jackson and Handsome Hack, but Sally prevailed with a 650+ cast win. Friday night’s draw put James and Sally up against Center Fire Gin, Hastings Little Ann and Mattty Ice. Sally finished with 50+ moving on to the finals.

Handler James Tirey is on cloud nine today and expects to do well tonight. He says Sally’s lay up on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights hurt her performance a little on Friday night, but he believes the edge is off her now and she is ready to go get em’.

CH J & W Ohio River She Devil
DOB: 11-21-2009
Lifetime Earnings: $699.00
Walker Female
Sire: Turpin’s Insane Cain (Pup Earnings: $15,221)
Dam: Big Run Sis (Pup Earnings: $1,074)
Jesse Jordan Or William Wooten, Owners
Letart, WV
William A. Wooten (Handler Earnings: $37,768)
Letart, WV

She Devil and Bill Wooten were beat out by Hastings Little Ann in the early round on Tuesday. However, they came back and defeated Tree Crazy After Dark, Sipsey Creek Sweet P and Walpole Hilltop Willie with a 25+ early round cast win on Wednesday night. In the late round Bill and She Devil bested Zeb 3 Again, Rats Frozen Dreams and Track Pepper with a 75- cast win, good enough for a trip to Friday night. Bill and She Devil’s semi-final cast win with 25- defeated Mud Creek Bo-Jack Son, Summer's Honey Creek Jukebox and Walpole Hilltop Willie (again).

Handler Bill Wooten is a twenty-year veteran of the PKC hunts. Over the years, he has placed his dogs in the semi-finals of the Super Stakes many times, but this is his first trip to the Final Cast. Bill and his partner Jesse Jordan have owned She Devil since she was a puppy. They bought a pair of pus off the litter from Dale Smith and both are doing well. She Devil is a good strike dogs and opens a good bit on the ground. She can get by herself and is a good tree dog. Bill believes his chances are just as good as the other two tonight and he hopes to come out on top.
