Same tree? Scoring question

Postby Simon Rucker » Fri Nov 09, 2018 12:53 pm

We had an interesting situation happen the other night and we had a good discussion about how to handle this situation.

3 dog cast, Dogs are cast down a small creek below a pond. Dog A and B are almost immediately struck. They run around for a minute and then Dog A grabs a tree about 20 yards from the cast and is declared treed. Dog B follows suit for 75. Dog C is struck with 50 and a line but carries the track the other way. Dog B leaves the tree and is minused about 2 minutes into the time. Dog A stays treed for 4 minutes and 15 seconds. 2 is started on Dog A. She breaks it and the tree is dead. Handler goes to get her in plain sight of us and she leaves before he can get his hands on her. She is minused 100 and goes back on trail.

This is where the question arose-

At that point, is the tree declared as scored even though we never put a light in the tree but the time had expired on it? The entire cast was in plain sight (20 feet or so) of the tree at the time and everyone saw what transpired.

We thought for a second she was going to come back to the tree but she never did and it didn't have any effect on the outcome of the cast in the end.

How should would we have handled it if she did come back? How should we have handled it if dog C came in and treed after the other dog had left knowing it was a tree that had previously been treed upon?

Simon, this tree can not be considered scored unless at least one dog is handed there, the shine time started and the tree scored as plus, minus or circle. Any of the dogs in the cast could have been treed or re-treed on this tree and scored.
Prepare yourself and your hound. Hunt the dog, read the Blue Book, and your Good Book!

Thanks Jerry- that's what we thought but just an unusual situation made us question it! Thanks again
