Clarifying PKC Strike Point Scoring Scenarios

Postby Jerry Moll » Sun Dec 03, 2017 10:47 am

There has recently been some confusion concerning awarding the proper amount of strike points to dogs in different scenarios. If you remember the "Golden Rule" of PKC Strike Points, you should always make the correct decision: Only One Set Of Strike Points. Please read the scenarios below and it may help you with your scorecards.

Scenario #1
Dog A is struck for 100, Dog B is struck for 75 and treed for 100 in the opposite direction. Dogs C and Dog D have not been struck in. The cast scores Dog B's tree, and then heads back toward Dog A. In the meantime, Dog C is heard and declared struck, Dog B is released and declared struck, followed by Dog D being struck in. Question is, what do all the dogs strike for?
* In this case Dog C strikes for 50, followed by Dogs B and D for 25 each. Dog A continues to hold the 100 strike position.

Scenario #2
Dog A is struck for 100, Dog B is struck for 75 and both are declared treed together 100 and 75. Dogs C and Dog D have not been struck in. The cast scores A & B's tree, and starts leading them a minute. In the meantime, Dog C is heard and declared struck, Dogs A & B are released and declared struck, followed by Dog D being struck in. Question is, what do all the dogs strike for?
* In this case Dog C strikes for 50, followed by Dogs A, B and D for 25 each.

Scenario #3
Dog A is struck for 100, Dog B is struck for 75 and Dog C is struck for 50. Dogs A & B are declared treed together 100 and 75. Dog D has not been struck in. The cast scores A & B's tree, walks them a minute. When they stop, they hear Dog C opening, so they recast. Dogs A & B are released and declared struck, followed by Dog D being struck in. Question is, what do all the dogs strike for?
* In this case Dog C remains at 50, followed by Dogs A, B and D for 25 each.

Scenario #4
Dog A is struck for 100, Dog B is struck for 75 and both are declared treed together 100 and 75. Dogs C and Dog D have not been struck in. The cast scores A & B's tree, and starts leading them a minute. In the meantime, Dog C is heard, two barks. The minute expires, Dogs A & B are released and declared struck in that order, followed by Dogs C & D being struck in that order. Question is, what do all the dogs strike for?
* In this case Dog A strikes for 100, followed by Dog B for 75, C for 50 and D for 25.

Scenario #5
Dog A is struck for 100, a little while later, Dog B is struck for 75. It is then determined that handler of Dog B, in fact struck on one of Dog A's barks. Dogs B is minused 75 points. Dog C then opens and is declared struck. A short time later, Dog B actually barks and is also declared struck, followed by Dog D. Question is, what do all the dogs strike for?
* In this case Dog A strikes for 100, followed by Dog B for 75. Dog B is minused 75 points. Dog C is struck for 75 and Dog B is struck for 50 and Dog D for 25.

8.A. Strike Points - Only one set of strike points, 100 points for the dog struck first, 75 points second, 50 points third and 25 points fourth. All dogs must be loose and competing for strike in order for 100 strike points to be available. When dog(s) are re-struck after being scored plus, minus, circle or deleted they may only be re-struck for 25 points, unless all dogs are competing for 100 strike points.

11.C. Calling A Dog That Has Not Opened - A dog called struck (or treed) must have opened immediately preceding the call. If any handler calls his/her dog that has not opened or calls another handler's dog, the judge will award the points and minus them. If two or more handlers strike or tree the same dog on the same bark(s) in an attempt to earn the same number of points, the handler(s) calling the wrong dog will be minused the same number of points as they were attempting to gain. These points, minused on a handler miscall, will then be available to all handlers.
Prepare yourself and your hound. Hunt the dog, read the Blue Book, and your Good Book!
