Calling a dog treed

Postby Jeff Glisson » Fri Nov 04, 2016 12:30 am

Does Rule 11c apply to this; or does Rule 5a apply; 4 dog cast, 3 dogs treed, tree dead and cast approaching tree. will say a,b,c dog treed. Dog d has been trailing away and trees. Handler of dog d and everyone in the cast hears the dog. Handler stays on the side of the tree where he can hear his dog as judge and rest of cast move to shine on the far side. Handler d goes to judge and trees dog d. Because of the noise at the tree handler d was awarded minus 100 because they couldn't her the dog and told handler of dog d that it's treeing off the garmin. Should dog d be minused ?

Rule 5.A. would apply if handler was using their tracking system and not hearing the dog. Either way, rule 11.C. would apply if the judge does not hear the dog. The judge must hear a dog before he can record a valid strike or tree call. If a handler trees his dog, but the judge does not hear the dog and minuses it, the handler may call for a cast vote.

In "hard to hear" situations, a handler should always ask the judge if he hears his dog before striking or treeing.

11.C. Calling A Dog That Has Not Opened - A dog called struck (or treed) must have opened immediately preceding the call. If any handler calls his/her dog that has not opened or calls another handler's dog, the judge will award the points and minus them. These points, minused on a handler miscall, will then be available to all handlers.
Prepare yourself and your hound. Hunt the dog, read the Blue Book, and your Good Book!
