The PKC Cast Drawing Procedure from page #43 of the Blue Book must be followed by the Hunt Director at every PKC Hunt. Please post this notice on the wall near the Hunt Director table.
PKC CAST DRAWING PROCEDURE
1. Hunt Director should begin drawing casts immediately following the deadline, but never later than thirty (30) minutes after the advertised deadline.
2. Determine total number of entries and number of casts needed.
3. Prepare required scorecards with all information completed, including deadline to return scorecards.
4. Select required Judges from the entry labels and affix one to each scorecard.
5. Select the required number of guides from the entry labels and place in the "Guide" container.
6. Prepare one blank entry label for each three (3) dog cast, if any. Write "three (3) dog cast" on each and include them in the "Hunters" container with all remaining entry labels.
7. Once all entry labels are in their containers to ensure a "blind" draw, allow each Judge to draw his cast. Judge should draw a guide first, and then the remainder of cast. Hunt Director should inspect entry stickers before they are stuck on the scorecard. Dogs with owners and/or handlers in common are required to draw separate casts when possible. If judge draws two entry slips with common owners/handler, the last one pulled will be placed back in the draw box and a new entry sticker drawn. Be sure that the names of the Judge and Guide are indicated on the top of the scorecard.
8. Announce the number of dogs, the payout and the deadline, and then call casts.
ENTRY DEADLINE
Entries may not close until the advertised deadline. Later entry deadlines during summer months will be available upon request. To schedule later deadlines, the club must contact the PKC office early enough to allow time for advertisement in PROHOUND. Hunt Director may take entries after advertised deadline at their discretion. However, no entries may be taken after the draw has started and no entries may be taken more than thirty (30) minutes after the advertised entry deadline. All handlers and dogs should be on the grounds when casts are drawn. An exception to this would be if an additional guide is needed and a cast is sent to the guide. In a situation such as this, the Hunt Director should announce the plan to all participants before the draw.

Re: PKC Cast Draw Procedure - Reminder
Something I been noticing at other clubs is the Hunt Director using himself as a judge in 4 dog cast or using the club members as judges instead of affording the opportunity to those outside the club as our Blue book directs.

Most all the time you can try and its almost impossible to get someone to say they will judge no mater if there a member of the club or not we always ask, I think this past weekend was the first time we had 2 non members step up and judge its a joy not to have to always judge, and thank you to those that did and did a great job

Re: PKC Cast Draw Procedure - Reminder
At our club we ask everyone for judges, when everyone denies i go to our go to judges that judge at every big hunt we all go to. . Never have questions that way and id rather have judges that know the rules to ensure no questions asked policy.
On the draw, i use the same system as on big hunts, except use bingo balls for each individual to draw instead of slips. Everyone wins that way and no one can complain when they each draw their own ball.

Same here. It's like pulling teeth to get anyone from outside to judge.
