Freedom of Speech on the PKC Message Forum?

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights and was submitted to the states for ratification on September 25, 1789, and adopted on December 15, 1791. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Many unselfish and courageous men and women have died defending this and many other freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

Obviously, this freedom of speech right has limits, mainly do to with where and how you are speaking. Clearly, it is not and can not be absolute for any and all situations. For example, the First Amendment will not protect you from punitive consequences in the following situations. You cannot stand up and yell “FIRE” in a crowded theater when there is no fire. If you tell a judge in a court of law anything you want to when it’s not your turn to speak, you will be held in contemp. If a baseball team manager speaks too much of his mind to the umpire, he’s “Outta There”. If you decide to start voicing your dissenting opinion in the middle of the preacher’s homily at your church service on Sunday morning, you will likely be run out on a rail.

An individual cannot expect to go into a McDonalds (or any other business) and start voicing their negative opinion aloud for all to hear without being ejected. You cannot continue to verbalize your opinion to the judge of your Nite Hunt cast after he has warned you that he has heard enough. If a Nite Hunt competitor becomes loud and offensive at your clubhouse, he will be removed. In addition, I do not know anyone who would allow a guest in their home to verbally insult them or their family without being run off.

Although anyone with internet access can view what is posted here on the PKC Message Forum, it is not a public forum; rather it is a private forum allowing only those PKC National Association Members in good standing to contribute. There are many open forums on the World Wide Web, but the PKC Forum holds a much tighter standard that most when it comes to the expectation of professionalism. Input from PKC Members that is provided in a positive and constructive way is desired and always welcome.
