Terrible Move
Combining all the pups into one pup derby at the breeders showcase? Worst idea ever in my opinion. Not many are gonna want to make that drive to hunt a one year old against one that’s nearly 4. The whole reason for the hunt is for pups to compete in their own divisions. If you want more entries keep the divisions divided, come off that pocket book and give added purse money out that’s worth hunting for instead of $400. This at one time was one of the best hunts to go to, now it’s sure enough going down hill.

Re: Terrible Move
Once an elite hunt, now just a common, and common stretches it.
Why they continue to sabotage this hunt is amazing to me.
I haven’t been since moved from Ky. Who wants to drive to a $400 added and spend that much on expenses for 3 days.
The old days, $500 warm ups, huge crowds Thurs-Sat lot of good times where had in Aurora in July and October

Re: Terrible Move
There may be some misunderstanding here, not sure.
All three nights, all one year olds will hunt against one year olds. All two year olds will hunt against two year olds. All three year olds will hunt against three year olds. We are trying something new this year. The pups will compete in their own division, hunting against their own age group 1-2-3. There will only be one Final Four, but it will have $1,000 Added Purse each night instead of $400 and casts wins wins will pay a lot more.
Champions of each age division for the three nights will earn an additional $400.
And there is still a separate Open Event and a separate Youth Hunt all three nights.

In order to get something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done!
When something isn't working out to expectations... new ideas have to be tried... let it ride, guys!
If it is a flop, than I'm sure they will try something different next year!

Re: Terrible Move
So, it has not been "sabotaged"? It sounds like PKC has stepped up and added more money. Won't there be any warm up hunts this year? Last year they started on Mon night with pretty good turn outs. And have y'all hunted at Aurora, Ky lately? Brazil is a great place for a big hunt.
Re: Terrible Move
I am curious to see how this format plays out with this years breeders showcase. My guess is it depends on how one wants to look at it if it’s more money or not. Yes a 1000 added is more than 400 added to the final four but 1000 added is also less than 3 final fours of 400 a piece. Bigger cast win pay out is def a plus. Jerry, I do think their is a lot of overall confusion from what I gather on the format that needs to be cleared up so it doesn’t effect entries. We will see how it goes depending on entries and feedback. I know this used to be arguably the most prestigious open event of the year but somehow it has managed to fall from its grace. I don’t think their is one member that doesn’t want it restored to that glory again. I think a good simple start would be to start “showcasing” the breeders of these pups that win their cast in the prohound again. Their used to be 1-2 pages in the breeders showcase addition of the prohound with every pup that won a cast along with what they were off of. People like to see what studs are throwing winners, some people used it as a tool when it comes to breeding their female, and some “average joe” coon hunters just enjoyed seeing their names in the book for once. I haven’t seen these things published in years. It’s the little marketing things that can be done for starters to get this hunt back on track.

It was done before it left Ky, there is a big open event or a classic or something to go to every weekend somewhere. When the Breeders was big it was one of only a few. Some of them will make it and some will decline, but there is way to many of them for any one to be big anymore.

Re: Terrible Move
Any one that thinks this hunt has went down in numbers because of leaving KY needs to take blind folds off.

Re: Terrible Move
The added has not gone up
Last year had 3 divisions 400 added each = 1200 added
This year = 1000 added
