2007 Statistics

Competition is the name of the game and PKC has more events, more awards, and more exciting competition than anyone else!

Professional Kennel Club, Inc. (PKC) is the nation's largest organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the sport of raccoon hunting with dogs. In addition, PKC's modern, computerized registry through which it maintains stud files on the six recognized coonhound breeds plus Cross-breds, Curs, Feists, and Beagles, is a DNA-based registry. No other dog registry in existence has more DNA-profiled dogs on record and no other registry requires mandatory DNA sampling of all breeding pairs as does PKC.

PKC licenses more organized competitions for these hunting breeds annually than does any other registry. PKC is the nation’s largest organization devoted to coonhounds and coonhound competition with more than 8,000 PKC licensed events held each year in the United States and Canada. PKC major events, such as the 2004 PKC Breeder’s Showcase for example, which entered 1,466 coonhounds in three nights of competition, are the largest gatherings of competitive coonhound fanciers in the nation year after year.

PKC leads the way with its "professional" format by presenting cash awards rather than points and ribbons. Winners of its competitions earn championship degrees according to dollars earned in PKC licensed events. As a result, PKC competition takes on many forms through the various "races" that develop monthly, and continue throughout the competition year running from October 1st to September 30th of the following year.

Annual competitions are designed to recognize state and breed leaders as well as pup, male, and female leaders on a national level. Other competitions recognize leaders in Blue Ribbon (Pro) Events and Youth events. Nestle-Purina PetCare recognizes the top Super Stakes Pups and the top Handlers each month in the PKC Super Pup and PKC Super Handler Championship races. Monthly qualifiers earn "tickets" to the PKC Super Pup and the PKC Super Handler Championships held annually at Lula, Mississippi where owners and handlers of the qualified hounds enjoy a weekend of hunting and entertainment as guests of PKC, Nestle-Purina PetCare, and the Isle of Capri Casino. And that's only the tip of the iceberg.
